To Start A Week

by Justin Kaiser - Broadcast Mastery

If you’re an independent here are a couple of hard and fast rules to start the week on a high note…

1) Get dressed for work ever morning – even if you only wear shorts and t-shirt.
2) No food in the studio. Coffee, tea and water is still welcome.
3) Check my account regulary to keep on top of current and past due accounts.
4) Make regular “sales calls” to present, past and potential clients.
5) Never let a day go by when you don’t express your gratitude to those around you who help you succeed – be that fellow , voice actors, referral sources and clients.

I say “Thank You” with enthusiasm to everyone with whom I work.

And if you ever think you don’t ALWAYS need to say thanks – try finding yourself on the receiving end of someone who never utters it, but always wants your help.

Albert says… “10 or 12 years ago at a station on the East Coast. The GM would say, “I it when my sales people buy a new car or a house. Debt motivates them to make . I took that mantra and applied it to my company. I set a for every month based on need, greed, and last year’s determination to succeed. And I bust my bunny-slipper-wearin’ ass to hit it. ”

Starting with point number one above. Get up. Get Dressed.

Thanks for reading.

MARGARET ATWOOD
From Thursday’s Globe and Mail
What sort of country do we want to live in? What sort of country do we already live in? What do we like? Who are we?
At present, we are a very creative country. For decades, we’ve been punching above our weight on the world stage – in writing, in popular [...]

February 3, 2009

“Potato-potato-potato!” Know what that sound is? Maybe you don’t recognize the onomatopoeia, but you must certainly know the actual sound. It’s the “Hog Call,” the rev of a Harley Davidson, and it’s one of the most recognized sounds of one of the most recognized brands in the US.
As for “potato-potato-potato,” that’s the sound that Harley [...]

Throw It Against The Wall and See If It Sticks!

April 12, 2008

I was just e-mailed this from one of our readers in the community…
“Even MORE reason to beat salespeople to death that don’t let us do our jobs.  The time to throw commercials against the wall to see what sticks is OVER. Our clients need targeted, well crafted sales messages right now.*
Consumers Making Fewer Shopping Trips
U.S. [...]

I’m Declaring E-Mail Bankruptcy

April 12, 2008

No, I’m not financially insolvent… but I am e-mail insolvent.  Since the 2 big Illinois floods in January and February of 2008, I am not able to keep up and I’m not able to do my job as effectively as I was once able to.  So I highlighted all of the messages in my inbox [...]

Horse, Meet Water… Water, Meet Horse…

January 7, 2008

And Drink! They’d die of dehydration blaming the cowboy because he didn’t scoop the water, cool the water, and bring it to the horses lips, where he would gently pour the water down the horses throat.
This exercise continues to prove one fact: Radio continues to kill itself by convincing reps that they sell advertising, [...]

Why Are Yellow Pages Like Nursing Homes

October 18, 2007

Here is a forwarded converstation from a “Secret Society” called the Idea Bank…  Thought you would find it interesting…
Why are the Yellow Pages like nursing homes? They’re shockingly expensive, few people under 70 use them, and many who do are just a little out of it.
Moral of the story? When you invest in Yellow Pages [...]

Added Value – Interesting Commentary from the NAB

September 9, 2007

I never thought I’d see this from the NAB.   There are still people that do care about producing and writing commercials that work for our clients. Some clusters have just given up. Some just get “it” on.  Radio is hurting right now… economy, war, wall street, bad moon rising over scorpio, whatever.
I care….  I get paid to care [...]

Think Different – Perception of Creative Identity Group

July 25, 2007

There is a difference between having a strategy of grabbing a larger percentage of the current listening audience, and having a strategy of GROWING the listening audience.  Are you growing, or simply capturing/trading listeners from competitors?
Creative Identity Group knows where consumers are and how to reach them in this new communications landscape, and we want to [...]
